While T’wood’s other “North Indian imports” draw much flak for being “pretty faces who can’t act”, Neha Sharma, is one actress who has managed to impress the Telugu audience with her acting abilities. After a successful debut in Chiruta with Ram Charan Tej, Neha is currently making waves for her act in Kurradu with Varun Sandesh, after a two year sabbatical.
The pretty and svelte actor who pursued fashion designing in New Delhi, says, “After I graduated, Chiruta came my way and then I took a break. I was offered many roles that were similar to my debut role, but I didn’t want to take them up and get stereotyped. When I got a different role in Kurradu, I jumped at it.”
The actress, who has her eyes set on Bollywood too, is geared up to make her Hindi debut with a Mahesh Bhatt production. “I’ll be acting with Emraan Hashmi in a film directed by Mohit Suri. It’s a love story based on racism in Australia. The shooting begins this month,” she says.
Talking about how she landed this plum role, Neha says, “The Bhatts saw my work, met me formally and signed me up. They believe in delivering hits and market their films intelligently, so I’m looking forward to it.”This however, doesn’t mean she is bidding adieu to Tollywood, she clarifies. “Tollywood is as important as Bollywood to me. The people are welcoming and I’ve got a good response here,” says Neha, who has floored the local audiences with her dancing skills as well.
“Dancing is in my genes and I have inherited my skills from my parents. Also, I learnt kathak when I was a kid and took up formal training in different dance forms such as jazz, salsa and hip-hop after Chiruta’s release, so that I’m more comfortable,” she says.
The actress is making headlines not just for her rising career graph in Tollywood, but also for her personal life. Ever since her debut film released, the industry is abuzz with speculation that Neha is dating Ram Charan Tej. She however rubbishes the rumours.
“Charan is a brilliant actor and we’re just good friends. Maybe the rumours helped publicise the film better,” says Neha. who is in “love” with Hyderabad.“Unlike Mumbai, there is so much more space in Hyderabad. It’s greener and one can enjoy a drive here, unlike in other crowded cities.”
